Pirates Claim Resop Off Waivers

August 4, 2010

RHP Chris Resop was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In 15 starts for Gwinnett, Resop was 6-3 with a 2.09 ERA and 91/31 K/BB over 82 IP.

He pitched in one game for Atlanta, allowing 5 runs in 2 innings.

Resop’s injury came at the worst time possible. When he went down, his value was at it’s peak and while I doubt Atlanta would have received a return of historic proportions, they would have at least got something.

Regardless, Resop’s story is a good one and I’ll continue to root for him as the Pirates become the NL version of the Royals (a.k.a. Atlanta’s AAAA team)

Braves Request Outright Waivers On Resop

August 3, 2010

The Braves requested outright waivers on RHP Chris Resop, essentially ending his year with the organization. Resop is removed from the 40-man roster and will only stay with the Braves if he passes through waivers and decides he would rather stay in the organization than test the free-agent market.

In his only game with Atlanta, he allowed 5 runs over 2 innings and was immediately placed on the DL with a strained oblique.

In 15 starts with Gwinnett, he was 6-3 with a 2.09 ERA and 91/32 K/BB in 82 IP.

Resop DL’ed, Chavez Recalled

June 16, 2010

RHP Chris Resop was placed on the 15-day DL prior to Wednesday’s game while RHP Jesse Chavez was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett.

This comes one day after Resop made his season-debut with Atlanta, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings.

He’s expected to return when eligible.

Resop Recalled, Chavez Optioned

June 15, 2010

RHP Chris Resop was recalled (finally), while RHP Jesse Chavez was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett (finally x 5).

Resop has been absolutely dominant in Triple-A after transforming himself into a starter. He is 5-2 with a 1.84 ERA in 13 starts this year. In 73.1 IP he has 81 K, 27 BB and 4 homers allowed.

Chavez, acquired for Rafael Soriano in the offseason, was 0-1 with a 7.33 ERA in 18 appearances for the Braves this year. In 23.1 IP, he had 22 K, 18 BB and 5 HR allowed.

Chris Resop’s Out Clause

Via Foxsports.com’s Jon Paul Morosi:

If the right-hander isn’t on Atlanta’s 25-man roster by June 15, Resop can ask the Braves to inform the other 29 teams that he is available. Interested clubs will then have 72 hours to respond, if they are willing to bring him to the majors immediately.

If one club is willing, Resop will become property of that team.

If multiple clubs are interested, the Braves will make the ultimate decision as to where he goes.

I’ve never seen that one before. It’s certainly something to watch, as it would be unfortunate if the Braves got nothing out of this guy.
